Abstract
Oil is one of the most valuable and important resources for us.How to extend the Reserves-toproduction(R/P)ratio is a great challenge to current technologies. However, today,we recover only about 30% of oil from reservoirs, and there is still untapped oil in the deeper, hotter reservoirs. The technology for High Pressure High Temperature(HPPIT)seals is the most important development to access this untapped oil.The target of this study is to improve the production ratio by developing HPHT seal material for the deeper and hotter reservoirs. Many new research projects focus on improving the mechanical properties of CNT/rubber composites, but few of them have succeeded because of the dispersive and adhesive issues of CNT.This research paper introduces new technology based on the heating and surface oxidizing of CNT,to solve the adhesion issue between CNT and FKM rubber.By optimizing the oxidizing process, the connection between CNT and FKM is more stable against high temperature attacks.A longer connection strand enables an increased elongation by a carbon-oxygen-polymer chain. This high performance seal is the first of its kind in the oilfield using CNT/rubber composite technology.
