Abstract

For PP/elastomer/filler ternary composite, incorporation of filler particles improves impact strength. The influence of test temperature on impact modification effect of filler was investigated. Silica particles with a diameter of 0.7/µm was used as a filler and polystyrene-block-poly(ethylenebutene)-block-polystyrene triblock copolymer (SEBS) was used as an elastomer. At low temperature (brittle fracture), filler, incorporation improves hardly impact strength. On the other hand, at high temperature (ductile fracture), filler incorporationimproves significantly impact strength. These results indicated that the incorporation of filler particles changed the fracture behavior of composite more ductile breaking, when the polymer matrix showed the ductile fracture.
