Abstract
The selective oviposition of the smaller brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus, into various carbohydrate solutions was examined in an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of such artificial media in comparison to 5% sucrose, which has been used in recent years to collect planthopper eggs. Among the carbohydrates examined, none demonstrated better effects on ovipository success than sucrose. Therefore, the suitability and reliability of sucrose solution as an artificial medium for oviposition was ascertained by the present experiments.
