Abstract

The knockdown activity and nervous effect of pipercide against adult male American cockroaches, Periplaneta americana by topical application and injection were compared with those of pyrethin I and DDT. Pipercide had no knockdown effect by topical application (10 μg), but did cause knockdown after injection of the same dose. Pipercide induced only repetitive discharge on the central nerve cord, but pyrethrin I induced repetitive discharge as well as conduction blockage on the central nerve cord. Pipercide was hypothesized to act on the nervous system and when a proper amount of pipercide existed in the insect body, it showed a typical knockdown effect.
