Abstract
Two subterranean species of the Ortheziidae found in tea gardens in Shizuoka-ken, Japan, are described. One of these species, Newsteadia kanayana (n. sp.), is close to Newsteadia minima from North America but distinct in the spine band pattern. The other species, Nipponorthezia ardisiae, which was recorded as a root-feeder on Ardisia Japonica and citrus, is recorded from tea for the first time.
