Abstract
Secretions of the ventral glands in male and female adults of the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (L.) were collected and analyzed. The composition of the odoriferous principles were found to be p-cresol and p-ethyl phenol. On the function of the secretion, the phenols secreted from the ventral glands of this insect seem to play the role as a repellent.
