Viable cysts detected from Peru guano which had been imported from Peru to Japan in 1969 were identified as the potato cyst nematode, Heterodera rostochiensis WOLLENWEBER, 1923, as the result of the morphological study and an inoculation test. The Peru guano appears to be a possible means of invasion of this nematode species into Japan.
