On the water vapour in the atmosphere

Abstract

In this paper the synthetic discussion on the water vapour in the atmosphere was made based on the recent researches of meteorology and physics. As to the condensation of water vapour, the recent research of the fog particles made at Hokkaidô during the war time was reported, specially on the nuclei of fog particles observed by the electron microscope. The falling velocity of water droplet was discussed based on the newly deduced formula, which was an extension of the well known Stokes formula. As to the evaporation the recent investigation made in this country was discussed. The result of this investigation showed that the evaporation should be treated separately in case of laminar boundary layer and turbulent boundary layer. The absorption of long wave radiation by the water vapour was treated from the stand point of quantum mechanics and the application of this result to the agricultural, problems was discussed. Finally the freezing of soil was discussed showing the possibility of the practical application of the agricultural branches.
