Abstract
The proliferation of the Internet and the increase demand for not only voice or simple text communications but rather the combination of voice, video and intensive data transfer has brought about the need to provide broadband access not only to business but also residential and academic institutions. This paper presents the opportunities realized by deploying millimeter wave wireless communications links in the backbone network. The performance in terms of available data rates, BER, channel throughput and other performance parameters of these links are simulated and analyzed. The results indicate wireless millimeter wave communications links are viable solutions for deployment in high-speed backbone networks.
