We have researched a real-time animation method of rivers for landscape simulations. The method approximates the shape of river wave by Stokes wave and uses the bump mapping that changes normal vectors on river surfaces to express the shake of the river at high speed because a physical shape distortion requires large amount of calculation time. Moreover, We have considered a wind effect by using 1/f noise, and we confirmed real-time processing is possible up to about 19,000 polygons.
