Abstract

Specific design patterns produce motion perception in spite of still images. The “Rotating snakes” is a representative example of these motion illusions and it is grouped into the optimized Fraser-Wilcox illusion. The purpose of this study is to clarify the mechanism of the “Rotating snakes.” This study examines a relationship among retinal eccentricity, contrast sensitivity function, and perception of the illusory motion.
