New IoT Application by hierarchical image coding

Abstract

In the conventional image recognition system, image recognition and image coding are independent processing. Our proposal image recognition system transmits only a part of the hierarchical image from IoT devices (eye) to edge gateway (brain) and performs image recognition on edge gateway side. The power consumption of IoT devices are suppressed, the effective image recognition system for IoT are implemented. Only essential data are transmitted, image recognition are implemented with coarse image quality, the distributed image recognition processing is realized with low power consumption, finally in the cloud side, and is characterized by transmitting the object image of arbitrary shape. It’s possible to use many application.
