Abstract

A cloud of local weather named Oiwaregiri and Miyazakigumo is known to the people of Hida-Kamioka district, Gifu prefecture. The author makes an attempt to explain the local weather of Kamioka from a field survey of meteorological observations. In spring to Bai-u, the rainy season in early summer, the Oiwaregiri often covers the top of mountains in the north side of the town area in Kamioka. It is said that appearance of the Oiwaregiri is a forerunner of cold air invasion. From the meteorological observations, the Oiwaregiri actually accompanies with a low temperature. And when the Oiwaregiri appears, a weather chart is the west high type which the atmospheric pressure of west side of Japan is high. This type of weather chart brings a northern surface wind to the central Japan. The Miyazakigumo appears at the top of Mt. Urushiyama-dake which occupies in the north area of Kamioka, and further, a character of Miyazakigumo is to appear in the fine day afternoon at about four hours in chiefly spring and fall. When the Miyazakigumo appears, a weather chart is the type of an anticyclone which covers over Japan. And the observations at the top of the Mt. Urushiyama-dake showed that a temperature was falling sharply in the afternoon at four hours.
