Abstract
Hontyo-tirisi-ryaku (Concise geography of Japan) was written by Hayasi Razan. Originally, it was a part of Nihon-koku Ziseki Ko (Report on things in Japan), compiled in response to the inquiry of Korean ambassador in 1643. Some consider this as the first work of Japanese geography in the Edo era. This author points out that this work is insufficient in its style and content, and that Razan had inadequate preparation and little interest in compiling geography.
