Abstract
Polygon representation is important for characterizing land use and the relationships among the land use polygon. This study aims to investigate the land use change process and the geometric characteristics. Polygon event and polygon state help to grasp the continuity spatially and temporally. Compactness, which recognizes geometric characteristics of a polygon, was used to enhance understanding of the change process. Central area of Tsukuba City was selected as study area. The results show that the polygon on the changing stage makes the compactness relatively low and the polygon on the final stage of the transition makes the compactness relatively high.
