Wired broadcast telephone networks (Yusen Hoso Denwa) were born in Japan just after the end of World War II. At those days, many local governments and agricultural cooperatives in Japanese rural areas deployed their own telecommunication networks and provided telephone services and broadcasted various local programs including local news, agricultural information and music. They conducted a field experiment on ADSL technology for the first time and launched the first commercial ADSL service. They have not depended on NTT Group's telecommunication networks and they could decide to introduce ADSL services by their own judgments.
