Efficient generation of detail Digital Elevation Model from aerial photographs taken by Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition

Abstract

In the Antarctic region, detail DEM effective for topographical interpretation has not been obtained due to the severe access to people. In this study, we apply for SfM/MVS technology to the aerial photographs taken by Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition to make detail Digital Elevation Model. As a result of SfM/MVS processing, we succeeded in creating a DEM with 1.4 m mesh. The newly created DEM can express micro-scale topography which effective for geomorphological mapping.
