Abstract

Recent articles on ‘Anthropocene’ argue that a simple dichotomy of human-nature relationship fails to grasp actual complicated environmental problems, and we need to search for alternative view of human-nature relationships. This paper aims at researching for potentials of new environmental movement in the epoch of ‘Anthropocene’ through examining some cases of environmental movement in the 1970s Japan. Such environmental movement should be based on the recognition of ontological linkage between human and nature, in which nature is neither unilaterally destroyed nor saved by human, and the sense of crisis that such linkage would be broken off.
