Development of teaching material and methods with Web GIS in high school geography

Abstract

This work introduces the usage of Web GIS “Topographic Profile Drawer” and its advantages for geographical education. No installation or particular platform is needed for its use, so this could help the popularization of GIS at school. Since Web GIS works across various platforms, students can use it at home or even with their smartphone. In such case, only a single Internet connection at school is required for the class and a poor facility won’t be a problem. Using Google Maps JavaScript API also allows research into various topics, regardless of region or scale on which students may focus.
