Abstract

In Finland, Environmental Studies is a subject that students learn geography, biology, physics, chemistry, and health education for six years. This research examines current textbooks and actual lessons to reveal educational contents that are involved in this subject. Since Environmental Studies is an integrated subject, students are learning the natural and built environment from different viewpoints. Teaching units related to geography covers topics from local to global. Map reading skills are needed to understand not only geographical contents but also some scientific contents.
