Abstract

This study spatially examines the projected population changes along private railway lines in Tokyo's western suburbs. With Japan's population aging proceeding, understanding its spatial trends becomes crucial. While previous research has focused on prefectures and municipalities, the impact of railway networks on population distribution has been largely overlooked. By analyzing six railway lines centered around major urban terminals, this study employs a spatiotemporal approach using small-area projected population. The results indicate changing population densities and aging rates, highlighting the importance of considering distance from terminals. The findings contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the projected population changes along railway corridors.
