Abstract

As the concept of "cultural landscape" has been introduced into the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the Law for the Protection of Cultural Properties in Japan, interest in landscapes in the protection and management of cultural heritage has increased in recent years. There are two major approaches to the landscape through cultural policy: finding heritage value in the landscape itself, such as in the case of cultural landscapes, and (re)interpreting cultural heritage such as historic sites and ruins from the perspective of landscape. As a case study of the latter, this research focuses on the dolmen ruins of Antequera in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, Spain, in order to understand the concept of landscape in the region's cultural policy, and to examine examples of political interventions related to the management of cultural heritage on the dimension of landscape.
