How is the sense of place constructed on the move?

Abstract

After the spread of COVID-19 in Japan, interest in people who live on the move, known as "address hoppers" is growing. However, their sense of place for accommodations or areas is not enough examined. The presenter asked 20 users of the “Housing subscription service” to keep a diary over six months and analyzed them. In our hypothesis, they might construct a "progressive sense of place" (Massey 1993). However, in fact, some of them still have a consistent sense of place. Since the survey was just completed, this presentation is a preliminary report, and possibilities for further research will be discussed.
