Abstract

The GeoCapabilities philosophy emphasizes the importance of using students' disciplinary knowledge (PDK) in lessons to enhance their capabilities and think about alternative social, economic, and environmental futures. The GeoCapabilities 3 project aimed to bridge the gap between academic and school knowledge, focusing on migration and using students' everyday knowledge and geographies. Fourteen geography teachers in five European countries collaborated on the theme, identifying challenges and developing a model of teacher development. The Netherlands school used the concept of 'home' to challenge the official version of migration in school geography, resulting in meaningful lessons.
