Abstract

The purpose of the current Course of Study is only halfway through. In high school education, where the composition of subjects has been improved, measures to establish it are an issue to be considered. Therefore, I would like to clarifyi the points of the current course and help discuss the revision.

The first point is about the connection between elementary, junior high, and high schools. It is necessary to devise a teaching system that allows students to feel their own growth. It is important to manage the curriculum not only in terms of the connection between elementary, junior high, and high schools in geography learning, but also between the fields of junior high school and the subjects of high school. To this end, teachers are required to grasp the previous learning and utilize the results of past learning in their teaching.

The second point is to enhance activities to cultivate qualities and abilities by applying "geographical perspectives and ways of thinking." In the study of geography, it is necessary to cultivate qualities and abilities unique to the target geography through activities such as researching and considering by exercising "geographical perspectives and ways of thinking".

The third point concerns the position of Regional Geography Education in geography education. In Regional Geography Education, students can understand the unique characteristics of a region and increase their interest in that region. Additionally, by understanding the general trends in the relationships between phenomena, students can enhance their ability to consider regions by focusing on the interrelationships of various phenomena. This enables them to apply similar considerations even when the target region changes. Furthermore, it is expected that by utilizing these skills, students will develop the ability to geographically analyze and conceptualize solutions to societal issues.

The fourth point concerns the cultivation of social participation awareness. It is important to increase interest in society while developing qualities and abilities that can only be acquired through geography education. One such skill is the acquisition of geographical skills, such as using maps to communicate with others.

As a problem to be solved in the current curriculum, there is a discrepancy in the understanding of qualities and abilities. It is hoped that the qualities and abilities targeted in geography education will be clarified and widely shared through discussions.
