Surface Temperature Characteristics of Permeable Pavement and Grass Pavement in Summer

Abstract

Nagano Prefecture addresses climate change and urban heat islands by introducing green infrastructure. At Wakazato Park, asphalt parking surfaces were replaced with permeable and grass pavements. This study monitored surface temperatures and weather conditions during summer to assess their cooling effects. Results showed that permeable block and grass pavements significantly reduced surface temperatures compared to asphalt, with permeable block pavement being particularly effective for heat mitigation.
