Abstract

This report provides perspectives for the progresses in Urban Geography from the point of view of Compact-Smart city design. Compact city is adopted to urban planning/policy in almost all municipalities of Japan in the last 2 decades. Adding to this, Smart city policy is also developed from around 2020. Although both policies have conflicts in some points, it is actually necessary to integrate them. Advanced geospatial data and analysis including AI (Artificial Intelligence) are also important to realise Smart city (Ex. autonomous driving). It is required to consider these influences of new information society and incorporate latest data analysis for established research themes toward further academic progresses.
