Patient: A 77-year-old woman had chief complaints of masticatory disturbance due to instability and poor retention of maxillary complete dentures. The maxillary edentulous jaw had severe ridge resorption with flabby gum. The mandibular jaw with distal extension missing showed prognathism of class III ridge relationship.
Discussion: In this case with class III ridge relationship, it was considered that the selective pressure impression, the edge-to-edge occlusion of anterior teeth, and the posterior crossbite to better accommodate the small maxillary and large mandibular arches improved the stability and retention of the maxillary complete dentures.
Conclusion: For this mandibular prognathic patient with class III ridge relationship, the stability and retention of the maxillary complete dentures was improved by taking into consideration the impression technique, the arrangement of artificial teeth, and the occlusal supporting area.
