Abstract

With the purpose of examininig the development and change of scientific communication media in the increaseing use of computer networks, a survey was conducted from February through April in 1998 by sending out a questionnaire to 1238 psychologists belonging to Japanese universities, of which 525 were responded. The questionnaire consists of the degree of accessibility to networks; grades of skills to be employed to use computers and networks; use of computers in research activities (e.g. processing of experimental data, effective use of word processors, and to bibliographic databases); use of electronic media available on computer networks (e.g. e-mail, mailing lists, electronic journals, and WWW pages). The result reveals that thourgh e-mail is widely used for informal communicaition, electronic media is not highly used for formal communication.
