Existing research in product development management illustrates that it is important for research and development (R&D) organizations to develop technology while utilizing the knowledge existing within their business departments. This paper explores the factors driving knowledge utilization by R&D departments. The survey results of the R&D division in Company A, a manufacturer of general electronics, show that active proposals from the R&D department, in addition to the traditional mechanisms of integration, lead to the utilization of existing knowledge within business departments.
