A supplier must respond to customer demands when undertaking product development. In addition, the supplier also must take the initiative to propose solutions to problems that customers face and involve the customer when catalyzing the problem–solving process. How is it possible for suppliers to actually put into practice this type of solution process? This paper examines solution strategies among suppliers that are centered on the development of resin-coated fasteners for automobiles by Sumitomo 3M.
