Abstract

The crystal structure of 1,4-dimethoxyanthracene (DMA) was determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. DMA crystallized in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbca, with unit cell parameters: a = 6.3805(5)Å, b = 15.624(1)Å, c = 24.778(2)Å, V = 2470.0(4)Å3, Z = 8. The crystal structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least squares to a final R value of 0.071 for 2779 reflections (I > 2.00σ(I)). Two methoxy groups on DMA had a syn-geometry and lay in the anthracene plane.
