Abstract
The crystal structure of (R)-2-phenoxypropionic acid-(S)-alanine has been determined. In the crystal packing, the hydrophobic and hydrophilic layers are well separated along the b-axis. The shallow pocket on the hydrophobic layer accommodates the methyl group of (S)-alanine. The amino and carboxy groups of (S)-alanine are intermolecular hydrogen bonding to the carboxy groups of phenoxypropionic acid.
