The crystal structure of [DMphen]+ ClO4- (DMphen = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) is monoclinic, space group P21/n with a = 6.7247(7), b = 19.278(2), c = 10.3682(11)Å and Z = 4. The crystal structure was solved by direct methods and refined by a full-matrix least squares method to final values of R1 = 0.0600 and wR2 = 0.408 with 2246 reflections (I > 2σ(I)). There is a π-π stacking interaction between the parallel cationic aromatic rings, and also the [DMphen]+ cation is involved in hydrogen bonding, acting as a donor with an O atom of a perchlorate ion as an acceptor.
