Abstract

The crystal structure of (2-pyridyl-2-azopyridine)(2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine)chlororuthenium(II) hexafluorophosphate ([Ru(tpy)(apy)Cl]PF6; tpy = 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine, apy = 2-pyridyl-2-azopyridine) has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The complex crystallizes in a triclinic system, space group P1, with the following unit-cell parameters: a = 11.2522(5), b = 11.8298(5), c = 12.6072(5)Å, α = 67.22(1), β = 64.02(1), γ = 66.05(1)°, Z = 2, V = 1333.2(2)Å3, R = 0.039 [5550 refs. I > 2σ(I)]. The apy ligand is bound to the ruthenium ion with the pyridine nitrogen and the azo nitrogen.
