Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a Mononuclear Copper(II) Complex of N,N′-Bis-2,3,4-trihydroxybenzylidene-1,2-phenylendiamine

Abstract

The mononuclear complex [Cu^II(H₄bzphen)]·CH₃OH, [H₆bzphen = N,N′-bis-2,3,4-trihydroxybenzylidene-1,2-phenylendiamine] was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2₁/n and Z = 4 with cell parameters a = 14.601(14)Å, b = 8.574(3)Å, c = 15.953(9)Å, β = 109.49(8)°, V = 1882.8(21)ų. H₆bzphen acts as a tetradentate planar ligand, and the copper(II) has tetragonal planar geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular π-π stacking interactions and hydrogen bonds.
