Abstract

The title compound, 2-hydroxy-2-(2-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-2H-indene-1,3-dione (1), crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/n with cell parameters a=9.8238(7), b=14.9677(12), c=10.5678(8)Å, β=110.149(4)°, V=1458.79(19)Å³ and Z=4. The asymmetric unit comprises one crystallographically independent molecule of (1) and one molecule of water as a packing solvent with the formation of intermolcular hydrogen bonds.
