Abstract
Different types of waste materials are increasingly used in the production of normal Portland cement (NPC). These materials modify the properties of NPC as well as different clinker phases due to the presence of various minor elements. Single phase clinker component with and without minor elements are therefore necessary to study  the effects of these elements on the hydration and other behaviours of NPC as well as different clinker phases. Tricalcium aluminate (Ca3Al2O3, C3A) is an important clinker phase of NPC. In this communication we report the synthesis of C3A by pechini method. The resin was characterized by thermal methods. The products obtained at different temperatures were characterized by XRD, BET specific surface area and SEM analyses techniques. Results indicated that formation of C3A started from 900°C and single phase, well crystalline C3A could be synthesized at 1000°C.
