In some areas (Yamada, Ozuchi, Ofunato, Takenoura, Mangoku-Ura), a lot of chambers were observed in almost all stocks, when shells were sectioned. In other areas (Nagazura-Ura, Matsushima, Jigozen, Ten-no, Ondo), however, few chambers were observed. The chambers were generally sealed with jelly-like material, mud, mud tube of polychaete, polychaete Terebella ethrenbergi, or foul-smelling water.
