Abstract

In Akita Prefecture, the first phase of the development of historical conservation and the movement of historical artifacts and documents began in 1945. Shinichiro Yamazaki, the Dean of Education, developed several policies for document control that intended to enhance the prevention of the destruction of historic objects and the preservation of these objectsbyanexperiencedadministrative facility and a local history researcher. In the 1930s, Keiji Yamaguchi of the Historiographical Institute at the University of Tokyo interacted with Yamazaki and the second period aimed at establishing a prefectural archives museum. The plan for the development of this museum, which was initiated by Yamaguchi, was modeled after the Ministry of Education archives museum, where there was no provision for officially handing over documents. In 1936,Yamazaki succeeded with this plan by moving a member of the prefectural assembly, but it was set back by a sudden death the following year. Compared to the Yamaguchi Prefectural Archives Museum, which had both an organization and a collection archive researching overseas archives literature, the Saitama prefectural archives in the 1940s was modeled after the Ministry of Education archives museum until the 1930s. The Akita prefectural archives museum is also being planned currently.
