A case of hypersensitivity pneumonitis apparently induced by Candida albicans was investigated clinically and allergo-immunologically. 1) Skin reaction to Candida albicans (×10^4) showed negative immediate, and strong positive late reaction. 2) The bronchial provocation test to Candida albicans (×10^2) demonstrated slight positive immediate, and markedly strong positive late respiratory reaction, accompanied by headache, joint-pain, myalgia and fever. Fine crackles were auscultated and diffuse micronodules were seen of chest X-ray films 24 hours after the test. 3) Precipitating antibodies to Candida albicans were present, although no specific IgE antibody or IgG S-T S were detected. 4) A marked increase in peripheral neutrophils, followed by an increase in blood monocyte counts several hours later, was noted during the bronchial provocation test, although the other blood cells did not change.
