Abstract
The Ariake creek region has an unique environment . However, a large farmland improvement project in the Chikugo river basin has recently led to the re organization of the water system and creek networks. This has profound influence on the region. We therefore investigate inhabitants' consciousness about evaluation of creek environments and what their improvement should be. Most of inhabitants recognize that creeks are polluted and dangerous but important. They desire natural, accessible and ecological improvement of creeks.
