Abstract
Institutional interruption between local administration and village autonomy is observed in rural Bangiadesh.
The distance between Thana, in which officers are posted, and villages is too far for some field officers to commute to vi11ages and for villagers to get infornation and services. Virtually, it does not have circumstances in which government services can reach to villagers. This is one of the biggest reasons why many rural development trials so far have ended in failure in Bangladesh. More attention has to be given to Union situated between Thana and villages. Improvement of Union office in terms of hardware and software and the establishment of Union devebpment committee are required most to fu1fill more efficlent implementation of general administrative services and deve1opment programs.
