Abstract
Using motion data from demonstrations by professional dancers, we have developed a Web-based interactive choreography simulation system for classical ballet, which is called "Web3D Dance Composer." This system allows ballet teachers to create various choreographies for lessons, and also allows students to see 3DCG animation of these choreographies saved on the Web. To handle motion data more easily, we have developed a new systematic coding method based on ballet steps, which allows ballet teachers to describe and save choreographies. Based on the systematic coding method, we integrate several functions such as archiving, reusing and automatic composing to support creation of choreography. This paper explains our proposed coding method for classical ballet in addition to several functions of the creation-supporting system we developed. This paper also provides an evaluation of the system.
