Abstract
The dynamic characteristic of human energy metabolism was in-vestigated during natural walking experiments in eighteen Japanese young adults. The trait was expressed in terms of a time constant obtained from the regression of the energy cost at walking to the first order lag model. The analysis showed that the mean value of time constant for the males was 1.38 minutes with a standard deviation of 0.28 minutes, and that for the females was 2.29 minutes with that of 0.99 minutes. A sex difference was shown in the trait indicatinc male mere rapid resnnnce.
