Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to reveal the artistic and educational meaning of the mask. It is because the artistic meaning of the mask is unknown, despite being introduced in the art textbook.
First, I studied the mask as a painting motif. It turned out that the artistic meaning of the mask is to have the original power and form. “Les Demoiselles d'Avignon” painted by Pablo Piccaso brought that fact.
Second, I studied the Noh mask It is the Japanese Art work, because it has evolved into the cultivated mask It expresses not only some expressions but also its relationship to the light of the stage.
Third, I studied essential meanings of the mask They are “hide”, “persona” and “transformation”. And I found that ”persona” has educational meaning, because it would form the character of the student.
Finally, I conclude that an understanding of the mask is useful for an understanding of cultures and others
