Abstract

Spiders of 62 species belonging to 13 families were found in paddy fields in Ishikawa Prefecture. But Pardosa pseudoannulata, Pirata clerki, Enoplognatha japonica, and Coleosoma octomaculatum were not found in the paddy fields. Spider faunas were different on four surveying areas. But the difference in spider fauna was rather small. The spider communities in paddy fields were divided into two groups, namely, canopy habitat type spider community (CHTSC) and under-part habitat type spider community (UHTSC). Each type spider community is divided again into two subcommunities, namely, snarer and hunter subcommunities. Spiders of snarer subcommunity of CHTSC in plain area were fewer than those in piedmont area. Similar phenomenon was observed in spiders of hunter subcommunity of UHTSC in paddy fields of plain and piedmont areas.
