Abstract
In this paper, two methods of estimating the average level of environmental noise (LAeq) in residential area with small traffic density are proposed. The first one provides a general way of estimating LAeq for noise whose level is arbitrarily distributed. In the second one, LAeq is estimated on the basis of a mathematical model that the traffic flow forms the Poisson distribution. The LAeq values estimated using these methods are found satisfactorily consistent with the actual field data.
