Abstract: Calcinus areolatus Rahayu&Forest, 1999, previously known only from Indonesia, is recorded from Japanese waters. This represents a major range extension to the northeast. A full description and illustrations are provided for better understanding of this species, including accounts of mouthparts and additional characters that were not included in the earlier description but seem systematically important.
