Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to examine the role and meaning of video observation in motor learning in physical education. The principal aims of the investigation were to examine the changes that occurred in the learner’s world of “Kinästhese” by observing a video from the viewpoint of phenomenological movement theory and to clarify the significance thereof. This demonstrates how physical education and sports instructors can use video information for movement instruction.

One case is cited as an example in the investigation. In this case, by observing a video during motor learning, the movement was immediately learned. In the investigation, based on the case, an investigation was performed regarding the actual status of changes in “Kinästhese” brought about by observing the video, and along with that, the basis of the sense that the learner had before observing the video.

The results of the examination suggested that observing a video during motor learning not only allows one to understand the characteristics of the external movement process but also reconstructs one’s sense. When an sports instructor uses a video device for motor learning, it is necessary to carefully consider how it will affect the generation of sense in the students, and to consider how to fully utilize it.
